GERMAN LANGUAGE FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS (A1.1)

German language absolute beginners.



COURSE OFFERINGS AND COURSE CALENDAR

The course will be offered synchronously and asynchronously for 25 consecutive hours. Each session will consist of 1.5 hours twice a week. Cohorts will open until they get filled.



REGISTRATION PERIOD AND APPLICATION DEADLINE

Registration will be open on a rolling basis and will close the week before the start of the course.



CAPACITY

Minimum, 8 students. Maximum, 15 students.



COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces absolute beginners to the basics of the German language in such skills as speaking, listening, writing, and reading through a communicative approach. It will be followed by three other courses designed to make students master the A1 level in the German language thoroughly.



COURSE PURPOSE AND EXPECTED PARTICIPANT LEARNING OUTCOME

After having finished course A1, students should be able to understand and use common words, everyday expressions, and very simple sentences. Students shall also be able to introduce themselves and others, ask others about themselves–e.g., where they live, whom they know, and what they like to do–, and respond to questions of that sort.

(a) Depending on the number of course participants, a second and a third class sections might be created and offered.

(b) In the event that the course does not meet the minimum application required, Hieronymus College reserves the right to cancel it.

(c) Registered participants will have a one-time option of (i) getting a refund on all paid fees or (ii) transferring their registration to a future offering of the same course.



COURSE MATERIALS AND RESOURCES

Participants are expected to purchase the course book Schritte plus Neu A1.1 not only for the course itself but also for preparation towards certification as TELC or Goethe Institute exams.



METHODOLOGY

Lessons will be delivered fully online. Classes will include text readings, listening and writing activities, audio files, and visuals to deepen comprehension of new vocabulary and grammar. Students are expected to do homework in order not to lose prior gained knowledge.



PREREQUISITES

Students are expected to be self-motivated, curious, and interested in mastering the German language.
